Balvaig Cottage Bed and Breakfast, Sutherland. Prices.

A great base for exploring southeast Sutherland and northeast Ross-shire.

Or just somewhere to relax and enjoy tranquility.

Balvaig Cottage B&B sits in tranquil woodland near a national scenic area

Possibly the best local area sightseeing and walking advice you will find, included in the price!

As this is an area of the Highlands not well known to tourists, we can help you plan your day trips (taking into account weather forecasts, tide times, etc.), and we provide detailed maps with annotations such as tourist attractions and walk route markings based on paths we ourselves have explored.

If you just want to have a holiday relaxing in tranquil woodland surroundings, there are lovely walks immediately in the area around the house.

We also have a flexible come-and-go-as-you-please policy and you can have breakfast as late as you like! This means that you can have a relaxing, enjoyable and relatively inexpensive holiday here.

Please do take your time to have a really good look around this website, as we have compiled a huge amount of local area information and photographs in order to show this relatively unknown and under-explored part of the Scottish Highlands.

Allt Loch Ruagaidh Waterfall

Suilven and Cul Mor from above Loch Migdale

View from above Loch Migdale, a local woodland reserve with a network of tracks for which we provide accurate path mapping so that you can enjoy such views. Balvaig is among the trees in the middle distance in the centre of the picture beyond the second stretch of water.

The Black Rock Gorge near Evanton

The extraordinary Black Rock Gorge near Evanton. It is heard to convey the depth of this gorge with a photograph. A must-see! (Dogs and young children should be kept under full control, as there are no fences, and the only safe viewing points are from the two bridges over the gorge). We can provide maps of how to find the gorge and enjoy the walks in the area.

Portmahomack Harbour

Another relatively unknown treasure in this part of the world which we recommend to visitors - Portmahomack has a sandy beach with fine views and also a museum about the mysterious Pictish people who once inhabited this area.
