Corbetts North of Scotland

Our B&B in Culrain is well situated for climbing some of the northernmost Corbetts in Scotland. We also understand the needs of climbers and walkers, and thus can provide packed lunches and evening meals, as well as a space for drying wet clothing and storing muddy boots!

Please bear in mind that we cannot guarantee the viability of some of the routes we have suggested e.g. in terms of access to the land. You may need to contact the relevant estate offices.

The closest Corbetts to Culrain should be accessible via the Amat Forest area (about 12 miles) which is a reached by road from Ardgay. These are:

  • Carn Chuinneag (838m) via Glencalvie.
  • Carn Ban (845m)via Gleann Mor.
  • Beinn a'Chaisteil (787m) (Strath Vaich) also probably via Gleann Mor.

The next closest Corbett is Breabag (815m) which may be accessible from somewhere near Ledmore Junction (27 miles). Further on past Ledmore Junction you also have Canisp (847m), Cul Mor (849m) and Cul Beag (769m) to the south, plus Glas Bheinn Assynt (776m) and Quinag (three peaks 764m, 808m, 776m) to the north. There are others further on either direction, but I think these are probably about as far as you might want to go in one day and back while climbing as well.

There is also a group of Corbetts at the north end of Loch Shin (35 miles plus a few miles added for the individual peaks), namely:

  • Ben Hee (873m)
  • Beinn Leoid (792m)
  • Meallan Liath Coire Mhic Dhughaill (801m)

There are others further north, but I think the above are probably about as far as you might want to go in one day and back. North of the Crask Inn there is the famous Ben Loyal - An Caisteal (764m), though this is also a bit of a long drive for a day out with climbing from Culrain. The Crask Inn is probably a better bet for these.

There are also a number of Munros and Grahams within relatively easy reach of Culrain.
