Scenic Golf in Sutherland and Easter Ross

Our B&B in Culrain is well situated for visiting the many fine golf courses in Sutherland and Easter Ross, northern Scotland, usually with magnificent views, possibly unrivalled anywhere in the United Kingdom.

There are golf courses at:

  • Dornoch - two world famous coastal courses. Situated next to a magnificent sandy beach.
  • Golspie - another coastal course just north of Dornoch. Adjacent to the northwest side of the Loch Fleet National Nature Reserve. Fine views inland and out to sea.
  • Brora - Situated next to a magnificent sandy beach.
  • Helmsdale
  • Skibo Castle near Meikle Ferry. Fine views of the Dornoch Firth and the bridge.
  • Bonar Bridge (Ardgay) - see picture at foot of page. Our local course. Lovely views of Loch Migdale where there are woodland walks.
  • Tarbat Ness at Portmahomack. Magnificent sea views. Near the main sites on the Pictish Trail and coastal walks.
  • Tain - an historic town with a golf course.
  • Invergordon - fine views of Ben Wyvis and the Cromarty Firth.
  • Alness - a delightful course built on a steep hillside with a series of tiers leading down to a lovely wooded riverbank with walks.

Not being golfers ourselves, we are not sure how you arrange to play on these courses, or whether they are private or public courses. However, they are worth visiting just for the views from them, and hopefully you would be able to play on most of them. We had a party of golf tourists staying with us for 10 days in the spring and they went back to Bonar Bridge course three or four times so they must have been impressed by it. They also remarked that they were particularly impressed with the course at Tarbat Ness, Portmahomack.

We have a lockable storage area for your golf clubs etc., should you wish to leave them behind and explore many of the other attractions in this part of Scotland.
