Loch Migdale Walk

There is a delightful series of walks in the Loch Migdale area, just behind Bonar Bridge. These walks take you through native woodland beside a loch, and there are also paths up into some small hills with fine views. There is a small car parking area beside the loch, and another near Spinningdale, from the other end of the trail network. The woods are managed by the Woodland Trust and a centre is under development at Torroy. The trail network is extensive and includes the Achue area behind and above Spinningdale. There is a fairy glen.

There is a henge and site of a crannog at the Bonar Bridge end of the Loch. These were the theme of a Time Team investigation from Channel 4. In 1900, a priceless collection of Bronze Age jewellery dating from around 2000BC known as the Migdale Hoard was discovered. The artifacts are now in the custody of the National Museum of Scotland.

Migdale Rock is also of geological interest.

It is possible to walk all the way through from our house to Loch Migdale via a series of good quality trails and minor roads, via Invershin and Balblair Woods.
